BIOGRAPHY

Car design was a childhood passion.
Car design was a childhood passion.
My love of cars started with a birthday gift from my uncle: a Motor Trend magazine subscription. I studied every issue, eventually subscribing to multiple car magazines at once and absorbing every spec and detail I could find. It became tradition ever year for my dad and I to spend an entire day at the Charlotte Auto Show inspecting each car and collecting every brochure.

I studied mechanical engineering.
I studied mechanical engineering.
While studying mechanical engineering at NC State and completing internships at Lockheed Martin, I discovered that my strongest interests emerged in the industrial design electives I took outside my primary coursework. Having long aspired to study automotive design at ArtCenter and encouraged by a professor who had graduated from the program, I decided to apply.

I explored transportation design.
I explored transportation design.
I started out studying transportation design, imagining it would fulfill my childhood dream of designing cars. While I valued the craft, I found that the work was surprisingly focused more on form, fashion, and established traditions than on deeply understanding users and solving real problems. I craved a discipline that felt modern and grounded in human behavior.

I earned my degree in interaction design.
I earned my degree in interaction design.
It was during an internship at Nissan, where I sought out interface-focused work, that interaction design fully clicked for me. I realized these were the problems I wanted to solve and adjusted my path. I joined the first ever class of ArtCenter’s Interaction Design program and was a pioneer of the degree there. With a curriculum still in its early stages, I leaned heavily on the experiences of my internships at Nest, Facebook, and Apple to build my own independent, multi-disciplinary curriculum and ensure I’d be a full-stack product designer.
